JUSTICE for Rene Quirante!
KAUGMAON-KMP’s Deputy Secretary General, the 14th victim of Extra-judicial Killings under Aquino Regime
We, in Kapunongan Alang sa Ugma sa Gagmay’ng Mag-uuma sa Oriental Negros (KAUGMAON) , condemns the assassination of our Deputy Secretary-General Rene Quirante, early morning today (Oct.1, 2010) in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental. Rene “Toto” Quiranre, 48, was shot dead at around two in the morning today in Sitio Amomoyong, Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental by suspected elements of 11th infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in the said barangay.
Before he was murdered, Toto was consistently vilified and harassed by this same military outfit since 2005. He was even charged by the 11th IB with trumped cases in 2008 along with five other peasant leaders of KAUGMAON.
The pattern is similar to the cases of regional peasant leaders Victor Olayvar ug Mayong Auxillo, who were both assassinated in Bohol in 2007 and 2008, respectively.
It also brings to mind mind the cold-blooded murder of our provincial chairperson Fermin Lorico, who executed right after leading an anti-CHA-CHA rally in Dumaguete City on June 10, 2009.
We are deeply enraged over this latest barbarity of the government. Barely in its 100th day in office, the Aquino regime has already claimed its 14th victim, Toto. So early in its reign, PNoy is proving to be no different from the much-despised Gloria regime.
We can not allow this to continue. If PNoy does not reject the militarist ways of Gloria, he suffer the same fate of his predecessor.
Justice to Rene Quirante! Justice to Fermin Lorico! Justice to ALL VICTIMS of Political Killings!
